Club Rules


Committee Byelaw


  1. The title of the Club shall be "Sutton Gun Club".
  2. The Headquaters of the Club shall be at Church Farm, Middleton, Nr Sutton Coldfield.
  3. The objects and aims of the club shall be to foster and encourage the safety and art of clay pigeon shotgun shooting, to arrange and organise practice shoots, to arrange matches and competitions both among members and other Clubs and to improve the standard of shooting among members.
  4. The management of the club shall be vested in a Committee comprising the following elected Officers:
  1. Written nominations of a Club Member for election as an Officer or Committee member, shall be signed by a proposer and seconder, and must be received by the Secretary not less than 14 days prior to the Annual General Meeting.  The committee shall have the power to co-opt members at their discretion.
  2. No debts or liabilities shall be incurred by, or in the name of, the Club without the previous sanction of a resolution of the Committee or of a General Meeting of the Club.
  3. The Treasurer shall be responsible to the committee for the management of the Club finances.  The Treasurer and any one of two nominated signatories, shall be authorised to issue cheque’s on behalf of the Club. The accounts of the club shall be maintained by the Treasurer in such form as the Committee may decide and shall be available at any Committee or Annual General Meeting of the Club.
  4. The Financial year of the Club shall be from the first day of October to the thirtieth day of September the following year.  Subscriptions which become due on the first day of October shall be set by the Committee.  Subscriptions not paid shall be subject to a £5 surcharge.
  5. The Annual General Meeting of the Club shall be held on the First Monday following the 20th January and 14 days notice shall be given to all members.  Resolutions to be proposed at the Annual General Meeting shall be given in writing to the Secretary 28 days before the date of the Annual General Meeting.  Nine members shall form a quorum at an Annual General Meeting.
  6. On a petition, signed by at least nine members of the Club being presented in writing to the Secretary, a Special General Meeting shall be called within 28 days of the date of the presentation of the petition to consider the matter contained therein.  A Special General Meeting shall be governed by the same rules as to notice and proposals and quorum as govern Annual General Meetings.
  7. The Committee shall have power to form such byelaws as they consider will be  conducive to the good of the Club and to the Furtherance of it’s objectives.
  8. A candidate for election to membership of the Club shall be proposed and seconded by members of the Club and shall submit a completed application form to the committee. The committee shall vote thereon at the first convenient Committee Meeting and if elected, the applicant shall become a member upon payment of dues.
  9. Before a candidate is proposed, he shall shoot on at least three occasions, one of which shall be a sporting shoot, on which he shall be accompanied by a Committee member.
  10. Members shall, subject to the concurrence of all members present, have the right of introducing visitors to the Club, provided that any member so introducing such visitors shall be liable for all debts incurred by them to the Club and shall be responsible for their supervision, safety and conduct.  Visitors may only shoot on five occasions before applying for membership. No member may introduce more than two visitors at the same time.
  11. The Committee shall be empowered to request the resignation of any member if it is considered that the member’s conduct is not in the best interests of the Club.
  12. The Committee shall be empowered to appoint a Cashier and Groundsman and shall supervise their activities.
  13. Claims of any nature shall not be the liability of the Club or Committee.
  14. Motor Vehicles shall not be parked on the track leading to the Gun Club field without Committee approval.
  15. Any member deliberately shooting a live target on the Club field shall automatically forfeit membership.
  16. Only one member shall be allowed to shoot at any one target at any time. Except in the case of organised team shoots.
  17. Dogs shall be kept on a lead at all times.
  18. Safety shall be every members responsibility.
  19. These rules may only be altered at an Annual General Meeting or Special General Meeting convened for the purpose. A majority of two thirds of the members present shall be required.

A shotgun licence is needed and must be shown.

To shoot on Sunday, visitors must be signed in before 10am.

On the 1st visit a shooter will shoot with a group that includes a committee member.

Visitors on Sundays pay £5 per visit, and are allowed up to 5 visits per annum.

Visitors on Wednesday evenings in the summer pay £5 each Wednesday until they become members.

Membership is optional for Wednesday shoots only.

Except when shooting, Automatic Guns must have the bolts drawn back,

chambers and magazines empty and a safety flag in place.  

The flag must be in place before leaving the shooting stand.

Handicaps


Changes to the handicap system must be proposed in writing with worked examples of the effectiveness of the proposal based on actual shoot results, and should conform to the following:


1. Give shooters of all abilities a chance to win, when they shoot well above their norm.
2.Show that winners from across the full spectrum of shooting abilities win approximately in proportion to their attendance.
3.Show that based on the above, the results are improved compared to the current system.
